A Million Miles Away

Not really, but that’s what it feels like and it’s a great feeling. I have a massive case of wanderlust and it doesn’t quite matter so much where I go but that I’m going anywhere in the first place.  Of course, I have fantasies about my treks through Africa, India, Thailand, etc, but with everything that gets in the way, anywhere works too.  My best friend and I hit the road at 3 am like idiots, taking it upon ourselves to drive the distance without any sleep.  To make matters worse, we’d just polished off an entire freaking chocolate layer cake.  Youth is a cocaine monster that makes you believe that you can do anything, lol.  We sat, in awe of the natural wonder that is Niagara Falls, had Sushi and Thai in Buffalo, visited friends, and waited at the border to cross into Canada, for what seemed like an hour, all under a day with complete sleep deprivation.  Crazy?  Definitely.  Worth it?  Ditto.  We got into Toronto at 7 that night.  I went to bed half delirious, the other half greedily anticipating the sights and food to consume the next day.

I’ll be sure to illustrate my adventures when I return home.  Some can only be delivered via text anyways.  The very first place we went to today was a medical marijuana dispensary.  I had never been to one and my friend, who suffers from anxiety, had us tag along.  The door man is high and greets you with a casual head nod.  In their front display case are magical pastries of gooey caramel bars, chocolate chunk cookies, even blueberry studded muffins.  Todays feature flavor of marijuana was Butter.  I half listened to the guy tell us about the process involving whipped honey as my eyes swept over to everything else.  So much to look at!  Later, we visited the cafe he recommended that boasted “byom” aka bring your own marijuana.  I visited 2 real castles today, and wandered through Kensington and picked up ripe peaches and plums to enjoy after a meal of burritos, chocolate ice cream, and watermelon slushies.  China Town looked much like D.C. and NY’s versions, and riding around town with the windows down was the best feeling ever.  A cool, breezy 75–I wish I could bottle that in a mason jar, wrap a ribbon around it and bring it back as a souvenir.

My leg meat (haha) is sore from walking all around town today–it made me realize that back home, it’s commonplace to just hop into a car, even if it’s just to run down the street.  The people here seem very active and the biking community a prominent one.  There’s also such a beautiful blend of cultural diversity present.  Often times back home, I’ll be the only Asian person wherever I am.  Ah, I digress–leg meat–must rest.  On the bright side, I can’t remember the last time I went to bed at 1 am.

Sweet Dreams!

Love,

Your Squishy Monster ^.^

Canada seems to have the best signs ever, period. I saw so many that said things like “please lock up your belongings, it’s not safe,” “please don’t drink and drive, police will find you,” or “please don’t follow so close to the car in front of you.” lol

That’s how I feel about baby brother and his group of 40+ that tried to convince me to go out with them. I don’t know how one has the energy after walking the entire city for 8 hours, LOL!

We should go together for “research.” The evidence we bring back will be the food in our bellies and pictures in our cameras

I really like that line, “Youth is a cocaine monster.” How poignant.
