Celebrate Good Times

Thanks for that, Kool & The Gang.

Last September, I was making mountains of food and pastry, watching it disappear without so much of a substantial gathering of crumbs left behind.  It only made sense to begin documenting what I was doing anyways and allow myself to enjoy something for longer than 15 minutes after it had been cooked/baked.  The process has been (at times) long and arduous.  I am limited by the equipment that I can afford (flip cam + pc = up to 5 hours of reformatting time before I can even begin to edit) and the 1 woman show that I am, but I can’t complain because I love it that much.  To give you an idea, one video takes me around 8-12 hours start to finish…but boy am I glad I took the plunge.  I’ve made so many new friends and am provided with the opportunity to expand my craft and focus on what I love to do.  Out of my day dreams filled with an edible paradise comes cakes and cookies I can share with those I love, a food blog where I can spill out all my food thoughts into and a channel where I can show you just how excited I am to be in the kitchen.  100 videos came in a flash and I just know I’ll be around to make 100 more 1,000,000 more!

  • BlueCatShip says:

    * Simple, beginner, budget, and college cooking ideas might be good. I’ve been cooking awhile, but not a pro, and I like suggestions like those. Plus, I think a lot of YouTube viewers would like those kinds of things.

    * I’m new to home-cooking Asian foods (and a few other kinds) but I’m eager to learn, for flavor, variety, culture, health, it’s all good. I’m very new to Korean foods, despite that there are plenty of local places. Gotta try more. I grew up with all kinds of ppl and learning more is just great.

I started looking around YouTube for how to cook things, such as Chinese food. It led to Lila Voo’s channel and some Thai foods, which led to yours. There’s plainly interest in how to do Korean and American dishes, any cuisine really. So please keep that up.

    * The experience, like learning to use a wok and utensils, and comparing that with American and European cooking styles made me notice something. I really think there will be a lot of cross-fertilization going on, blending of techniques and styles. Americans have Americanized other food traditions, and then those have changed further with everyone (later-generation “hyphenated” Americans, new immigrants from there, and other Americans) going back to the native roots, doing “fusion” cooking (adapting and blending, new stuff) … it has all resulted in redefining what it is, both on the native “old country” side and their American descendants and the other Americans from other traditions. Some of these make really good sense and create something brand new with something old from more than one source.

I notice, for instance, that I *like* several things about wok cooking, and trying that out or blending ways of cooking or ingredients, it seems to make sense to me. Now, I would never want to do without a wok or some Asian ingredients, and sometimes I try things in either style, just to see what happens. If we’re all doing that, whichever country we’re in, it seems like it’s ultimately good for our menus and family and friends.

That was only confirmed when I saw a YouTuber who does mostly “ethnic” cooking, share what was in her pantry and fridge. The answer? A few extra sauces and ingredients from that tradition, plus just as many from all the other popular ethnic or local food traditions that all Americans eat regularly. Not really too much different from my own pantry and fridge. (Only a little neater and with a few specialty items.)

    * Oh, and I’m really impressed that a couple of younger fans, teens, are so into learning. Guys or girls, and whatever family cooking tradition we come from, it’s so neat to try out things. Cooking’s practical, enjoyable, and it’s a skill and art that everyone can appreciate and everyone ought to know some about. Both guys and girls need to learn their way around the kitchen and supermarket.

Hah, I had to teach two college roommates how to wash their freakin’ laundry, and show one how to tie his tie. LOL. My parents taught me because they felt there wasn’t any such thing as “men’s work” or “women’s work” or any difference in a mom or dad being able to take care of kids.

I love your videos!! I really enjoy watching them, because your recipes always interests me and you always have a happy-warm smile that makes me feel so…hrm…it’s unexplainable, but it’s a positive feeling. Haha. I also don’t get exposed to Korean dishes as often…so, I get really excited watching your videos [even if they’re not Korean dish based].

Oh yeah! And you have those “giveaways”…I’m not as used to seeing other cooks have giveaways, but thank you so much for taking the time to make and give giveaways for us all and letting us have the opportunity to even enter! I appreciate it. =) I also get excited, because where I live doesn’t have Korean snacks/food…so, just by you letting me have the opportunity to enter into your giveaways is already great, even if I don’t win. =)
