Glass Half Full

I just got one of the scariest calls I’ve ever had the misfortune of receiving. My pap smear results exposed massive irregularities in my cervix and so, I’ll have to go in for a biopsy soon.

I am so thankful to my local clinic for providing me with free health care, as I’ve never had health insurance. In order to obtain the biopsy in the first place, I’ll have to go in next week for an appointment to process paperwork to be referred to an outside specialist. My nurse has been so wonderful and has been both kind and helpful. I am so grateful and that’s where the glass half full bit comes in. I don’t know how I’d afford any of these services in the first place.

Ladies, I can’t stress enough how important is it to go and get your pap smears. It’s a good practice and is your first defense in early detection!

Worst case scenario, we discover the development of cervical cancer, best case scenario, the biopsy will reveal that my abnormalities are benign, or I can be treated successfully.

Please wish me luck…

Your scared but optimistic,

Squishy Monster

Not a very good call to receive. I hope all goes well. I had the call once but in the end, my cells had sorted themselves out by the time I had the biopsy (I was told this is fairly normal). A relative also had that call but a quick laser procedure had her all better in no time. You’re so right about getting your pap done, they really do save lives. Wishing you a very good call after your biopsy.

Angie, I will keep you in my prayers that it turns out to be nothing. You are very lucky to have a free health clinic. We don’t have those and I am without insurance. I basically have to go without unless it’s something that causes me to go to the ER. I wish we had clinics like you have. Keep the glass half full attitude…xoxo

Oh what a blow! Stay strong, as Elizabeth says, these things are mostly just a simple procedure to put right… but still – a misery till it’s over.

I’m so sorry to hear that. You will be okay and you are lucky to be able to get the exam done without insurance. I’m glad there are places that provide services like this. No matter what, you found this early.. and you’re young. You will be OKAY! Stay strong.

Angie I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I hope it is benign and all goes well for you.

I have many relatives and friends in health care so I am aware of the importance of staying healthy. Angie I have insurance( Holding on to it by a thread for it is becoming more expensive and the health issues I was born with well.) I have dated and know you nurses and Female doctors. Yes it is SO very important for LADIES to get their appropriate exams( I-E pap smears, breast and pelvic exams, mammograms, etc) Thank God for clinics that provide care for those that need it. In my youth they helped my family and I when we lived in the inner city of Chicago.

Angie as much as possible, be and stay strong! Make sure you find out all you can about the procedure before you undergo it. Thank you as always for sharing this with us all.Surround yourself with loved ones and lean on them dear Angie.

    Love, xxx,s hugs!

    Les.

Best of luck Angie – may all news be good, and on the slight off-chance it’s not, may it be something very minor and easily, quickly resolved! I’ll be thinking of you!

On another note, I think it’s f***ing disgusting that you even have to worry about “how you would otherwise pay for these things”, but I won’t start ranting about what I think of the US healthcare costs right now

  • The Squishy Monster says:

Thank you, my friend! I went in today and the “good news” is that I got accepted into a program to be referred to a specialist however, the wait is 4-8 weeks and the sooner we receive the results the better but what is one to do :/
