Super Foods For Super Women
As you all know, October marks Breast Cancer Awareness month. As a foodie, I apply “food logic” to most (if not all) things. The right foods can boost your mood, metabolism, and overall health (and happiness)! Some of the following are foods that we should all try to eat more of (even greedy little Squishy Monsters who want to eat nothing but cheeseburgers and truffles all day, instead).
Dark Green Veggies like Kale, especially delicious in Blueberry & Kale Smoothies!
Popeye should’ve got the extra mile with some lush and beautiful Kale that’s just bursting with Vitamins A,C, and K.
What else goes into my daily amazeball breakfast smoothies?
Flax & Berries:
If Acai Berries are too expensive, opt for Blueberries or Cherries, like me.
(I hear it absorbs better when it’s ground). I enjoy sprinkling in a bit whenever I bake muffins or breads. There are also Flaxseed supplements that are available, but it’s better to eat your nutrients the old fashioned way however, it’s a good vegan alternative to…
Fish
Like Salmon, Herring, Sardines…my favorite is Mackerel.
Studies show that omega 3’s may suppress the growth and formation of cancer cells.
Garlic, best consumed in its raw form. Try my Garlic Yogurt Dressing (zero-low fat, with all the fullness of its evil creamy counterparts). Garlic is said to reduce the risk of developing cancer.
White or Green Teas. I particularly enjoy Silver Needle. White Teas are said to have the highest levels of antioxidants.
Here’s my health haul, just in case you missed it.
Love,
Your Squishy Monster

This is great- a good reminder to eat right. My mom’s a breast cancer survivor, and she’s a super woman through and through. I’ll be sure to bust out the kale for our next breakfast.
Your mother is a survivor and exactly who I’m thinking about in reference to a “super woman!”
Angie.I love all the items you have on your video!! That kale on the top here is so green and LOVELY!Love smoothies with kale and water mellon, mint too! m!

Wonderful!! Thanks for sharing, Les =) I love it maybe for why you hate it (I like how oh-so-buttery it is and how it embraces its fish-ness) lol
Yay for super foods! I haven’t tried coconut water but do love coconut oil. Usually I cook my eggs in it, and sometimes snag a small spoonful as a treat. I’m stocked with chia and flax but unfortunately hardly ever use them! I really need to try harder. Have you tried making pudding with the chia seeds? You can make a raw pudding with them similar to tapioca since the seeds thicken the milk and get that gelatin-like stuff surrounding them. I really want to try it!
I have definitely a lot to improve on my diet, especially the green leafy part. Not that I don’t love them (mostly spinach), I just very rarely do anything with them. But your post gave me a good incentive.
Great post Squishy! Love everything you’ve got here with the possible exception of flax seeds! We eat all other seeds but just not a fan of flax! As a mum of 4 kids who home schools and works out 5 days a week, I need the good stuff or I’ll not make it through a week! I am so checking out your garlic dressing!
Great post! As a baker (and a big eater), I try to balance out my indulgences with healthier foods. Lucky for me, all the super foods that you mentioned are things that I love!
Thanks for this great post. My favorite is the garlic. I can’t seem to ever have too much garlic!
I love the fact that salmon is always on “good for you” lists. I love it!
why can’t they just make cheeseburger smoothies taste good?
Garlic anything sounds good though =)
<3 Kale!! It's a great crop for Autumn and Spring harvest here in NC.
I finally got around to replacing my mixer and it came with a nifty smoothy attachment. I've been waiting to try out your eye-opening breakfast drink.
Garlic-yogurt dressing, mmmmm, sounds like a dulcet salad topping. My grocery list just keeps getting longer. ~.^
Thanks for sharing another Super informative post Angie!! I hope you're having a GREAT weekend! Wishing you safe travels to LA and back. <3
Warmest Regards,
-Paul
I really need to eat healthier myself, but I never like any healthy foods… Well, blue berries are pretty good I guess.
Some good news. They’ve found a vaccine that works 100% of the time in mice for breast cancer. Hopefully within the next few years trials can begin in humans!
What a very timely post Angie….yes we all need to get our greens & these other stuff to combat that deadly C!!!

That kale looks beautiful! It’s easily one of my favorite super foods, and I know I’m not alone on that either. It’s great how it suddenly became so popular and much more accessible.
So many good foods here! And so delicious too! And perfect timing too because I’m about to go the grocery store. Add these all to the list! Thank you for sharing. I hope you have a wonderful end to your weekend!
All the foods you list here were very helpful in helping my son with his excema more so than any steroid creme the doctors prescribed. A teaspoon of ground flaxseed in his food everyday for a week and goodbye excema.
Very nice tips!! I love all the foods you’ve listed here which is great, although I don’t eat nearly enough greens as I should. Love tea though, been drinking plenty of it. GO GO superwomen!
I need to get on the kale bandwagon….all the others are incorporated into my diet regularly! Excellent post!
want to try the acai!!!!
These are good reminders! Thank you!
=)
I hope you had a great weekend too, Nami!
To me, it’s a cross between nutty, sweet, and a bit chocolately.
Kale Chips are nice if you’re just being introduced to them—crisp dry leaves in a screaming hot oven drizzled with olive oil, seasoned with basic spices.
I love that! YAAAY for natural remedies =) I’m a big believer!
Love that. I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
I know, right? There is such an abundance of it everywhere now and beautiful varieties, too!
Yay for all the super women out there!!!!
That deadly C is a scary B, huh?
That’s amazing news!
I’m a bit biased, but my smoothie (to me) tastes like bananas and berries. If it were me, I’d start off slow. Agave is a beautiful (and easy) replacement to most recipes that call for sugar and cut out processed foods and go from there.
I love my mixer. It’s a hand me down but still works. Lemme know how it pans out =) and thanks for the well wishes!!
We could try—oh, we could try, lol!
Salmon patties have been a recent obsession of mine.
I swear, it seems like garlic can go into any savory food and only help to make it better.
I will fully admit that I go a bit nuts with over consumption but I do try to squish in as many healthy foods as possible, lol.
I would experiment with different types of seeds …maybe chia?
I’m glad to hear it. I love Spinach, too. Nomnomnom =)
I’ve had it and really enjoyed it a lot! =)
Great educational post Angie! I’m glad to see a lot of dishes here are food that we eat. We must keep up eating healthy food! Have a great week!
What a great reminder of all the (delicious) healthy foods out there!
