Wedding Cake & Cupcakes

wedding-cake

Yup. That about sums up my weekend in LA. I concluded a pretty stellar weekend with the premiere of The Walking Dead. It always feels too far and long in between seasons.

Here’s what my weekend looked like:

Congratulations to Frank & Alexandria… You guys are going to make some beautiful babies together!!!

It will completely interrupt my reverie when I return to sweater season back home and depart from sun soaked days that call for tropical scented tanning lotions instead of extra hot lattes.

See?  (and that’s just a lousy, quick shot in the car on the way to the airport).

I could literally sit by the water, stare at the sky, and listen to the crashing waves all day long. I think I must have been a mermaid in another life.

(L-R) $10 for 2 meals in K-Town, the silver lining to missing an all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ by 20 minutes. Steak & Eggs, it’s what’s for breakfast. Dinner at the reception.

I have to say that Sprinkles was rather underwhelming. In order to satiate my crying sweet tooth and curiosity, I’ve visited many mainstream cupcakerys and always find that local spots are always the best. Their chocolate and dark chocolate are actually one in the same, despite their deceptive labels and their soft cake and buttercream managed to salvage an otherwise boring and flavorless base. It seemed they altogether omitted salt, coffee, or undercut a bit of necessary cocoa.

There’s got to be a euphimism here about being replaced by a pink box, lol.

I have some beautiful Castellas to bring back to the fam from here.

Santa Monica

I don’t know about you, but the Casino made me terribly sad, not excited.  I watched so many old people press their trembling hands against the screen on slot machines (that are not touch screen, mind you) as if emitting healing energy through the screen, almost willing the outcome to be in their favor.  I watched $20 balances dwindle to a quarter only to have it replenished by pushing in one crumbly bill after another.  No one (really) wins here and it seemed that all that was taken away from the experience were dead, glazed eyes and the scent of stale cigarettes in your hair but hell, the chairs are comfy and there’s practically an IV drip of sugary, caffeinated beverages and loud dings and bangs just loud enough to distract you from what’s really going on.  I wonder if there’s a market for bedazzled catheters, just because.  I bet I could make a killing setting up shop within any casino.  I’m no Puritan by any means, but it just doesn’t seem to hold an appeal if you don’t happen to be the guys from The Hangover.  I’d go with them in a heartbeat.

Where Marilyn & Elvis come to panhandle.

Segregation for the modern age: the nice folks here have a separate entrance for their “service staff,” “deliveries,” and “guests.”

Rodeo Drive where the mannequins are better dressed than the other mannequins that eat don’t eat at the very same Sprinkles .

All in all, I had a lovely weekend and in typical Squishy fashion, ate my way through the trip, I mean hell, by the time cake was served, I was the only sober one left and decidedly took it upon myself to casually stroll over and taste each differently flavored layer–LA was yummy to me.

I hope everyone out there had an equally yummy weekend!

Love,

Your impossibly-stuffed-Squishy Monster ^.~

Welcome back Angie!! It looks like you (and your tummy) had a fulfilling weekend in LA.

A cupcake ATM?! For those times when your sweet-tooth is in need of a deposit. <3

Yay, The Walking Dead is back. AMC has been putting out some really good series over the years. That so makes up for the rest of the shoddy cable TV programming.

What a fun time…sunny weather, excellent food, and time with friends. We stopped at Sprinkles in Chicago…but only my daughter tried a cupcake. I’m now glad I passed

The wedding cake looks so pretty, it sounds like you had a great time being the taste-tester I think I was a mermaid too, I love, love, love the water. The worst part is summer ending and having to close my pool, it’s so depressing! I’ll take any water though, it’s all beautiful!! That cupcake ATM is too funny. I love scary movies, especially this time of year but, I was highly disappointed that I don’t have the AMC channel. I seen everyone talking about it on Facebook and darn was I bummed. I got stuck watching Syfy…lol!! Hope you enjoyed it

  • Alex says:

A weekend to remember, I’m sure! I loved watching the pics. But that Cupcake ATM… If they were good enough, it would be my doom.

  • Hannah (BitterSweet) says:

I’m totally weirded out by the cupcake ATM… I mean really, does anyone NEED cupcakes 24 hours a day? Okay, I take that back, but does anyone need stale, dry, overpriced cupcakes 24 hours a day? I think that really cuts more to the point of the issue…

  • Sammie says:

I absolutely love K-town food!!! And omg!!! I’m the biggest walking dead fan too!! Looks like you had yourself a lovely weekend!

  • The Squishy Monster says:

I can’t remember EVER being this excited about a tv show! Rick is such a bad-ass. Given a pressure cooker moment + medical axe, I wonder if I could’ve done the same thing…

  • The Squishy Monster says:

You know, some people are all about gimmicks. I mean, when I purchased my 2 cupcakes, they were lopped into brown paper bags so that what I got was a half slanted-buttercream side with an uneven distribution of frosting. Isn’t a big part of why cupcakes are so appealing because they’re individually handcrafted, with love to enjoy while reminiscing about Grandma? I feel this completely detracts from that experience!!

  • The Squishy Monster says:

I hear in Japan, it’s practically a vending machine culture where most anything is available via these machines. I’m completely against that notion—as a matter of fact, I abhor it!

  • The Squishy Monster says:

You and I should swim the deep sea together and be sirens that lure men with FOOD! =) I sooo hope you get to check it out, it’s amazing! I believe Netflix is now showing the first 2 seasons =)

  • The Squishy Monster says:

That’s actually a brilliant idea, mister!!!

  • The Squishy Monster says:

My stomach loves me…or hates me (I don’t know, lol)

  • The Squishy Monster says:

I need that sunny weather to come back. S/he and I became such good friends

  • The Squishy Monster says:

I loved it. The desolation seemed greater and it really explored the Rick/Lori issue in a realistic way. Also, Rick grew a pair and it was about time! Diggin’ Rick jr there, too =)

  • The Squishy Monster says:

*sigh* it will be the dominance of humanity, starting with one cute and unassuming cupcake dispenser.

  • The Squishy Monster says:

    and super full, lol.

  • The Squishy Monster says:

That is literally the only tv I will watch. Yummy-sunny, I like that…should’ve been the title instead =)

  • The Squishy Monster says:

After reading your idea, I entertained it for all of 30 seconds. It sounds so brilliant but who am I kidding? I wish I had that kind of will power, lol.

  • The Squishy Monster says:

    Oh yes it was!

  • The Squishy Monster says:

I like mine still mooing and it seems I’m alone in that among my group, lol.

  • Angie@Angie's Recipes says:

I am glad that you had a fantastic weekend. Congratulations to Frank & Alexandria!

  • Joanne says:

The wedding sounds like so much fun! I’m glad you got to taste all that cake.

  • Tandy says:

What a lovely weekend! The cupcake atm bothers me a bit. I also get sad when I see people gamble away all they have.

  • The Squishy Monster says:

They make it so easy, any vulnerable soul would be susceptible to what looks to be a stimulating ride. Also, I found it to be a bit unnerving to be there, I can only imagine what it’s like for someone more advanced in age.

  • yummychunklet says:

Looks like a great weekend, but it was awesome that it ended with The Walking Dead!

  • Cheap Ethnic Eatz (@cethniceatz) says:

Sounds like such an awesome weekend, congrats to your friends. I so want to walk on a beach now. Great food and cupcake atm lol. Yep saw Walking Dead yesterday

  • The Squishy Monster says:

    What an explosive premiere!

  • The Squishy Monster says:

It was like the scary cherry on top of my sundae =)

  • The Squishy Monster says:

If everyone hadn’t been crazy inebriated, I bet I was a sight to see being practically knee deep in chocolate, vanilla, and red velvet, lol!

  • The Squishy Monster says:

    They’re so beautiful together =)

  • Carolyn Jung says:

OMG, I need to install a cupcake ATM in my house! LOL

  • Veronica says:

What a fabulous weekend! Love your wedding attire and the pic of you on the beach-so pretty! I don’t think gambling is a good idea either but did go last summer b/c that’s how my PIL wanted to celebrate their 50th anniversary. I actually had a great time, probably b/c I NEVER do it. I won like $400 for my MIL b/c she left me in charge of her machine so she could get a drink. By the time she came back I had a cash-out receipt for her b/c there was no way I was going to gamble with a win like that! She was stoked. We were careful and also walked out with about $50 profit, choosing to stop once we were ahead and just waiting for the others…for a long time-lol. But I really did detest all the cigarette smoke. I didn’t realize how spoiled I’d become to clean air now that the restaurants prohibit it. Anyway, glad you enjoyed your LA trip and thanks for sharing your photos!

We were in Beverly Hills a few months ago — and I totally agree with you on the mannequin reference

  • The Squishy Monster says:

I drive a corolla so I was telling my friend how weird it must be to be driving what is otherwise known as a “normal” car down the streets of Beverly Hills. These peoples car were worth more than my entire house, lol.

  • The Squishy Monster says:

You were very smart, that’s what I would have done. In the restroom were signs plastered here and there that read “we care, please report any gambling addictions that you or your loved ones have.” ugh.

  • The Squishy Monster says:

I really don’t know how to feel about it :/
