Weekend Likes & Dislikes

Dislikes:

Not only did the chef ruin the natural delicate brininess of fresh Scallops, it was $6.4o/Scallop.  I didn’t particularly enjoy the aesthetics either.  Beneath my balled mess of shriveled greens, 3 “truffled” potatoes and 2 carrots were buried…oh, and a random cauliflower.  Boo and boo.

I’m never one to object to second chances and if this was it, they failed miserably through and through.  Back in college, my suite mates and I would stumble back to the dorms, peel off the notes we’d so enthusiastically written to ourselves that read “don’t drunk eat this fatty!” and wake up in the morning with the notes and torn packages of the microwaveable brownie/cakes that promised “warm, homemade chocolate decadence!” and never delivered, everywhere.  This was like that minus an amusing story.  Even the Tuile tasted like a wheat thin.

Likes:

This diner was serving Thanksgiving dinner as one of their special entrees!  FTW!!  Potatoes done right with a ricer, rich and buttery gravy, moist slices of roast turkey, crisp and flavorful green beans with a splash of color and sweetness from the cranberries.  This makes me very excited for Thanksgiving (my absolute favorite Holiday).  Foodie foreplay, if you will

Yum, yummy!  So maybe I ate the entire bar in one sitting.  At least it’s an upgrade to when me and my roomie thought it would be a brilliant idea to nuke a king size Snickers bar, wandered away, completely forgetting about it.  Burnt sugar is currently the candle I’m burning in my room.  This was not like that.  Needless to say, the smell lingered in our room for days.

The Walking Dead!  Last weeks episode was my least favorite to date but this week completely made up for it.  I can’t remember the last time I was this excited about a freaking t.v. show.

‘cos she’s the girl that you’ve been waiting for…

and I wondered if I should insert this in the first or second grouping but I settled with the latter as it did make me chuckle…

Guy: Dayuuuum girl, you be lookin’ so fine today.  How you doin’ baby girl?

Me: stares…and staring.

Guy: licks his lips and nods.

Me: karate kicks him in the balls with one stupendous “hiiiiii yaaaa!” super Bruce Lee action.

(Kidding–I wish!) Real life: I walked away, shaking my head wondering “does that really work?”  I mean, obviously it works for him and therefore he places it in his personal arsenal or he’s suffering from some sort of psychosis.  Le sigh.  If I could get delicious cheesecake each and every time a stupid line got wasted, I’d be one pleasantly plump and happy gal.

Attention guys: give me cheesecake, not some half-baked nonsense that make me worry for the male population.

XO

Your laughing-while-shaking-her-head,

Squishy Monster ^.~

I always wonder if that disgusting hitting on/cat calling method works on anyone too. We get a lot of that here in NY. I liked your likes and dislikes list..esp. the likes…now I can’t wait til Thanksgiving!!

  • Charles says:

Thanksgiving dinner just for an entrée? O_o…. what the heck was the main course?

  • Charles says:

Oh wait, I forgot that entrée is often used as a word for main course in the US (it means starter over here).

  • The Squishy Monster says:

I learn something new everyday =)

  • The Squishy Monster says:

  • cheesecaker says:

I hate when guys hit on me too…bastards.

the walking dead seems better this season, and the tv show does too.

    btw I’m squishy hungry now

  • Honey What's Cooking says:

The worst is bad dessert, that is so annoying. It looks so good though.

  • Veronica says:

Hey, take it from a former hot young thang, enjoy the attention while you can get it! lol! Once you find Mr. Right with his cheesecake, you’ll never have to put up with losers like ^^^^ that guy^^^^ again because your honey will do the karate chopping for you. Hey, did you know my husband is a kung fu master? OK, maybe not a master, but he does have a black belt in Karate and knows Tae Kwon Do and Wing Chun. Except I took care of the come-ons myself by getting fat (lol) so he hasn’t been tested as of yet to see if he’d actually do a chop to the balls. haha!

  • Joanne says:

No matter how much I try to control myself around TJ’s chocolate bars, I just can’t. TOO GOOD.

MAJOR bummer about that restaurant you ate at. A tuile that tastes like a wheat thin?? Pretty bad.

  • Simply Sweet Justice says:

We’re finally get Trader Joe’s out here next spring. Can’t wait!!

  • Sandra (@SECooking) says:

Oh I am sorry about dislikes..I hate when that happens! I went to IT restaurant, and ended up with tiramisu with regular whipped cream not a really nice rich cream that makes you wanna jump while you eat more, you know… but still I ate it! :\ haha Anyhow that Thanksgiving dinner looks tempting, looking forward to mashed potatoes and loads of gravy! Have a great Week Squishy :)

  • Amelia says:

  • Lester. says:

Angie I hope and believe the likes far out number the dis likes.Lol. On a personal note the things more women say and do well lol kind of amaze me. Even while with their husbands! With single fellas that have no interest in other guys, wives, galls, etc.Interesting and some times frightening times we live in.
Have a wonderful Rest of your week Angie.People some timemes can give us chest pains in our legs!
    Love.

    Les.

  • Amy Tong says:

Oh…so sorry about that expensive and overly salted plate of scallops. I love divers’ scallops and really sad to see a chef ruined them. I hope that bar of dark chocolate made up the rest of your weekend. It always does for me. I’m crazy about dark chocolate.

  • Rebecca Ciriaco Sullivan says:

  • libishski says:

Eeeek those are some expensive scallops!

  • Bianca @ Confessions of a Chocoholic says:

I have been wondering about that dark chocolate bar from TJs! Also, yes to cheesecake instead of lines

  • Cheap Ethnic Eatz (@cethniceatz) says:

What a crime for the scallops! Watching Walking Dead tonight, now really looking forward to it.

  • bldp says:

I love scallops. I would have been disappointed too if they were messed up. Maybe the chef tried to do too much with it. Seafood really only needs the barest minimum for it to shine.

  • yummychunklet says:

No! Ruined scallops?? I would be heart-broken.

  • Maureen | Orgasmic Chef says:

I lost it at the tuile that tasted like a wheat thin. Not a satisfactory gustatory experience. :) I suppose if we never experienced dislikes there would be no way to highlight the best.

  • Suzie says:

I love scallops that’s so sad the dish was oversalty and just plain! The turkey dinner looks yummy! I can eat a turkey dinner anytime of year, it’s one of my favorites. The Walking Dead is one of my shows too, I don’t watch much tv but, I’m hooked on this one! The ending of your blog had me laughing…you’re too funny!

  • The Squishy Monster says:

I’m glad you got a chuckle out of it. I mean seriously, it’s so misogynistic! Can you imagine if we reciprocated such behavior? lol…*shakes head*

  • The Squishy Monster says:

    This is very true =)

  • The Squishy Monster says:

It was definitely an expensive heart breaking moment, lol.

  • The Squishy Monster says:

Maybe it was just a bad day, who knows. It’s hailed as one of the “local bests.”

  • The Squishy Monster says:

ooooh you’re gonna be on the edge of your seat!!

  • The Squishy Monster says:

    I don’t think I’ve met a food I don’t like from TJ’s yet =)

  • The Squishy Monster says:

Divers’ Scallops are the best! I can never find them but when I do, I go a bit nuts..^.~

  • The Squishy Monster says:

There should be a new expression about don’t judge a food by how it looks or something lol

  • The Squishy Monster says:

Ew, I hate when they do that. I suppose most diners are none the wiser but the Mascarpone is expensive for a reason and Tiramisu is rarely “cheap.” I hope you have a great wee too, Sandra!!

  • The Squishy Monster says:

oh man, you’re in for a treat!

  • The Squishy Monster says:

oh forgettaboutit! I was like, I’m only going to eat half and save the other half for later–nope, didn’t happen!

  • The Squishy Monster says:

Sounds like he’s the epitome of Charming =) and Veronica, you are silly…however, humbleness is a highly attractive quality, I hear Hope you and your Charming are having an awesome start to the week!

  • The Squishy Monster says:

It kills me! and I was really hoping for redemption in the dessert :(

  • The Squishy Monster says:

    soooo terribly expensive (literally)!

  • The Squishy Monster says:

I’m sooo excited about Thanksgiving, Rebecca! For a sec, I was like no way twd team let such an important character go and it took me a minute to register that it was really happening!

  • The Squishy Monster says:

That’s the silver lining here, lol–more good than bad and that Thanksgiving dinner was half the price and was the saving grace! =) I hope you had a great weekend, Les!

  • The Squishy Monster says:

    LOL!

  • Reeni says:

This is the second time today I’ve heard how great the Walking Dead was! I never even knew of its existence until now. Clearly it’s a show I need to check out! Haha the pickup is funny. Following you back on twitter! Have a great week! xoxo

  • The Squishy Monster says:

    It’s a must see!!!

  • petit4chocolatier says:

I truly love scallops! But not bad ones. Chocolate disappointment too, very sad! I love the likes!

  • The Squishy Monster says:

I’m just happy that the scales tipped in favor of the likes =)

  • Lester. says:

  • erika says:

You are just hilarious! I love the post it notes you and your roommates would leave yourselves. And microwaving a snickers bar. Hahaha. And the guy licking his lips. Really, I would be all in for the cheesecake instead of stupid lines deal. Or maybe pie. Or cake.

  • The Squishy Monster says:

    Right? Crazy guy.

  • The Squishy Monster says:

    aw, I missed you, Unni!

  • Paul Anthony Prince says:

Ugg, I hate going out and not getting good food. Thankfully I’ve only had a few bad experiences…but then again I don’t go out that much so the statistics may not be in my favor. >.<

TWD is getting good! I wasn't impressed by the episode without the usual gang either but you're so right about last weeks episode making up for it. I'm still in 'shock' mode over it. About to watch the new one once I get done packing the kids lunches.

I'm embarrassed that some males think cat calls really work; well perhaps in some instances they may but I don't see a woman of worth being found that way. Pick-up lines have never been my thing when it comes to breaking the ice, but I guess I should figure something out if I want to share a bowl of goo…cause I love to fondue~.^

Ahhh, Thanksgiving- what can I say about my most favorite holiday? It is of course another reason why Autumn is my favorite time of the year!! That turkey plate looks very yummy!! I'm Thankful it's almost here. We'll be heading down to Florida to visit family. Wishing you and your family a wonderfully pleasant Thanksgiving.

Love the tunes!! Keep 'em coming. I stumbled upon a video of you tickling the ivories the other day. Very enchanting.

Thanks for sharing you're weekend wrap up with us!!

    Warmest Regards,
    -Paul

  • The Squishy Monster says:

We missed you, Paul! I’m SO excited about tonight’s episode—I’ve got the popcorn ready and everything!
