Dinner Under $10 Challenge
Who doesn’t like to save money? For me, it’s all about having more money to buy more food. Seriously, that’s my personal logic behind it all
I decided this week that I would take on a challenge to see if I could whip up dinner for 4 for under $10. Results? A grand total of $7.49 with dessert to polish off after a meal of roasted chicken and kale salad.
Break down:
- Chicken portions < chicken breast: I got 4 pieces for $5.35 and had leftover bits/juices for gravy later on. (Here’s a video on how to roast an entire chicken)
- Kale: $.64 though a full pound would still have only cost me $.99 (the video includes kale 2 ways but here’s my favorite way to eat kale in my kale/blueberry smoothie)!
- Garlic: $.30
- Peanut butter/chocolate spread: $1.00
- Egg: $.20

Well done! Looks very yummy and so much better than fast food. At one time, fast food was cheap, nowadays, a meal costs you $7.00 or more. We can eat healthy at home and feed 4 of the same amount of money. This is what I try to explain to my kids all the time.

Wow success much? You should have your own magazine!
I agree, who doesn’t like to save money. I would do the same thing as you with the extra money! This dinner sounds amazing and I happen to have chicken out for tonight…yay!! Perfect timing Ang!! xoxo
I love to save money
LOVE this, Angie! People always assume that good meals have to be expensive and eaten out, but in truth you can get delicious, healthy food at home for much cheaper. Thanks for sharing this :):) Pinning + saving for later. We make easy cookies kind of like yours – 1 cup peanut butter, 1 cup sugar, 1 egg! It’s soo good!
Wow, Angela…you really rose to this challenge! I can’t believe such a great meal for 4 was less than 10 bucks! Simplicity at it’s best! : )
Save money on food to spend more money on food-my kind of logic! This dinner is fabulous and I love your spin on the 3-ingredient peanut butter cookie!
One of our local stores does a weekly menu of Eat In For R150 ($15) for 4.
you’re a superstar grocery shopper squishy monster!!!
Wow! You’re really good at stretching a buck! All of these are great ideas for a complete meal, and all under 10 dollars. I’m impressed!
I’m so bad at saving money… especially on food… I went today to buy only two or three items in my Asian shop and ended up with a whole huge bag of treasures
I’m always explaining to myself: I rarely eat out, so I’m saving lots of money anyway
Anyway, your dinner looks great and no one would guess it’s a thrifty meal!
Ooooh this looks so tasty and I love the budget friendliness!
This is great! Awesome that you were able to squeeze in dessert too
Sounds like a fantastic meal! I love both very much, but got to try those cookies…so yummy! My kids gonna go nuts over them! Thanks for sharing and have a lovely weekend!!!!
The cookies love you very much =)
I aaalways want dessert afterwards, going without seems ludicrous to me! =)
Knew you’d appreciate it, Kayle =)
Asian shops always get me…the cute packaging PLUS yummy treats sucks you right in!!

Sometimes, it really are the simple things … =)
I’ve had those before and they’re yummy!! Thanks for visiting with me, Gemma!
Can’t wait to see what you came up with today!
I would totally bring the kale and cookies…boooo you live so far!
lol, I never even thought about that–how fun!
thanks, Unni!
I adore kale chips! Happy weekend, Les!

Having a great one so far. NO RAIN. Have a safe and wonderful week end Angie.
Hi Angela, awesome meal and it’s really value for money. Fantastic! Thanks for sharing the video, 2 thumbs up for you.
Cheers!
Thanks for watching, Amelia!!
You had me at…..a bucket of chicken skin. No judgment here. Seriously, add a side of gravy for dippin’ and call me for dinner.
Thanks for sharing this simple and affordable dinner. I could use a handful of these kinds of recipes to feed my lil brute squad.
Mmm, don’t get me started!!
