Weekend Bits

My weekend post is a bit late because of my bout with sun poisoning.  I’m much better now but I still have a few remaining battle scars.  Needless to say, this is how I felt about the flurry of weekend events because of it:

When you’re ill, your body just doesn’t want to cooperate and of course when it rains, it pours and where I live, that’s also been quite literal.  I had to wade home the other day (just kidding).

Poor plants, most of ours are suffering from water stress and then these little boogers were attacking them too

But we captured a harvest nonetheless.

And look what I found in the backyard!

I feel that when I’m not feeling great, food always provides a great pick me up.

A progressive dinner night with roasted quail wrap tapas at one spot (even featuring gochujang ftw)!

roti canai at another spot,

with spicy yellow tail rolls

and rendang daging

This weekend also marked my bff’s birthday.  Happy birthday, “Treasure!”

A birthday menu of pesto chicken, garlic basil roast, potato casserole, creamed corn, grilled squash (from the garden), and roasted tomato (from the garden, too) mozzarella, and basil crostini with a tuxedo birthday cake for dessert..  Unfortunately, I think I may have hit my basil plant too hard.  Not pictured were also pomegranate basil italian cream sodas.  Poor naked basil.

After food, a quite happy Squishy Monster.

After a week of migraines, unbearable itchiness, and dizziness, I have a million and a half things to smile about.

In the words of this fella,

Love,

Your all smiles Squishy Monster ^.~

So glad you’re feeling better, sun poisoning is nasty. My hubs was sick with it a couple weeks ago. We have a heatwave going on right now and I pretty much stay in the pool or in the house. All the food looks great, at least you had that comfort!

  • The Squishy Monster says:

I survived with the promise of food dangled before me, lol!

I’ve never even heard of sun poisoning! I had to Google it. I used to purposely lay out on the beach with no sun protection for hours, wanting to see as much red when I was done as possible. I thought it was a quick way to tan and it took me a few years to realize that all it accomplished was a quick painful tan that just as quickly came off b/c it was like a big scab! EW. I don’t remember ever getting sun poisoning from it so either I blocked it out (I do remember being in a ton of pain) or my skin is just hard core-lol. Sorry you had to go through that! BTW your summer harvest bowl is gorgeous! I ate it all up with my eyes.

I used so much sunblock but to no avail, the sun doesn’t like me…OR the more likely theory is that I was out there waaaay too long, lol. Either way, it was no fun.

  • Paul Anthony Prince says:

Ouch! I know your pain. I had a case of sun-poisoning back in early 2000. I’ve not forgiven the sun or myself since then. I still shy away from summer (day) time events.

What a colourful harvest! I’m still kicking myself in the can for not starting my garden this year.

Ahhhh, biscuits and gravy; a staple in a southerners diet. When I was in elementary and some of middle school my father and I had a weekly trip to a small diner for breakfast before classes. There my love for biscuits and gravy was cemented. The quickest way to my heart? A plateful of B-n-G! Add a side of bacon and I’d put a ring on it~.^

I got to the biscuits and gravy and had to make a post. I forgot to finish reading your blog. >.<

What a pleasant surprise when I scrolled down to see a gorgeous smile! I'm glad you're feeling better.

    Thanks for sharing with us!
