St. Croix Foundation’s Gourmet Vintner Dinner at Ha’Penny

Located at the Ha’penny Beach Club, the Gourmet Vintner Dinner is 5 courses of delicious gourmet food catered by celebrity Chef Sam Choy, Facebook Chef Tony Castellucci, Chopped and CutThroat Kitchen winner, Chef Robyn Almodovar and St. Croix Chef Negust Kaza.  I had the opportunity of not only feasting on the gastronomical affair but also capturing a behind the scenes glimpse into #cheflife

Below is the menu with iPhone pics via my sweet husband who remembered to snap them.

The starter was put on by Chef Robyn who created a fresh wahoo crudo that was paired with a Justin Sauvignon Blanc 2016 from the Central Coast.  Dry barbecue rubbed paper thin slices of local wahoo were painstakingly arranged via tweezers as you’ll see in the video.

The first course was a curry carrot soup with mushrooms and meatball with truffle drizzle created by Chef Negust.  It was paired with a Landmark Overlook Chardonnay 2014 from Sonoma County.

Chef Sam made a macadamia crusted mahi-mahi {with nuts he brought with him from Hawaii} over rice with shiitake butter creme topped with breadfruit cake and a cube of mochi cake on the side for the second course.  It was paired with Landmark Overlook Pinot Noir 2014 from Sonoma County.

Chef Tony rounded out the third course with his local senepol braised short ribs with ginger soy and citrus beurre blanc, Japanese risotto with furikake candied shiitake mushrooms and miso ginger asparagus.  It was served with Justin Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 from Paso Robles.

The night ended on a sweet note with a dessert sampler of chocolate mousse, rice pudding and mango upside down cake.  It was paired with Cockburn’s Fine Ruby Port from Spain.
