Morning Routine & Healthy Habits

This first part has been a real game-changer for me. You’ve probably heard it a million times but it’s gratitude.  It really is everything.  It shifts your focus from all that you lack to what you are already blessed with.  My days are just never the same or as productive when I allow this mentality to slip.  It takes all of 5 minutes from the moment I wake up to consciously steep in all that I have to be grateful for.  This attitude of gratitude helps me approach the rest of my day with a calmer demeanor and not allow trivial hiccups to set me back because I feel rich in abundance already.

My mother was always getting on us about making our beds when we were younger.  Obligatory groans and begrudgingly made beds were the pattern of each morning but as I got older, I realized the value in accomplishing one little thing {as tiny as it may be} before you’ve even really started your day.  It’s also very nice to come back from a long day to a made bed.

I’ve never been a huge caffeine person.  I typically reserve it as a treat to go along with pastry on coffee dates because I actually enjoy those a lot.  However, it’s not part of my regular routine.  I rather prefer the therapeutic ritual of brewing tea.  With this occasional warming elixir, I have a daily routine of beginning my mornings with a liter of room temperature water when I wake and a glass of warm lemon water.  Most weekday breakfasts consist of my {you guessed it}, green smoothies that I’m sure you’re sick of hearing me go on and on about but nothing makes me feel as great as this trifecta.  It actually wakes up your cells and keeps you alert and I don’t find the need to reach for caffeine.  It also ensures that no matter how indulgent my meals are for the rest of the day, I know that I’ve gotten in my green and nutrient dense smoothie with whatever myriad of superfoods I felt like tossing in that day.

I have been pretty awful about stretching most of my life and as a new resolution, I’ve decided it’s high time that I change that.  I’m great about dry-brushing and I know stretching will also help with blood flow {even to the brain!}

All of these things probably take 20 minutes or less so why not give them a try?  You have nothing to lose and everything to gain because trust me, things flow a lot easier when you’ve had a great start to your day.
