5 Travel Tips

5-travel-tips

1. HYDRATION IS KEY.  I always travel with my empty Nalgene.  Whenever I get the chance, I also consume coconut water and eat lots of fresh fruit and veggies to stay hydrated in other ways.  This not only helps to stave off bad jet leg, but it also helps to prevent your skin from losing too much moisture which brings me to travel tip 2.

2. Combat low humidity in the cabin with: clear face masks like this one and alcohol free rose water spritzes poured into smaller travel bottles for a quick pick-me-up.

3. Double duty products like pure aloe gel as face and body moisturizer or shave gel, castile soap as shampoo, face-body wash or laundry soap {in a pinch} and my homemade lip balm as a mini moisturizing stick/hair product.  Whenever I arrive to where I’m staying, one of the first things I do is to purchase a cold pressed organic oil like grapeseed, olive {sometimes even coconut} that I can use for both food and skin {bolstered by essential oils talked about below}.  My new favorite is activated charcoal.  This is not only a great addition to my mini first aid kit for an upset stomach/food poisoning, etc, it also makes a detoxifying face mask or drink/smoothie, which is great after traveling.

4. Get quality rest.  Eye masks, ear plugs, melatonin {or tart cherry juice} and essential oils can all help facilitate this. I also really like meditation and serenity apps like Calm.  Traveling with a large scarf is very handy since I can use it as a blanket or a coverup.  Depending on where your destination is, this can come in mighty handy like when I was able to cover my legs to enter a temple in Thailand.

5. Back everything up: Keep both digital and physical copies of your passport, ID/license, visas, birth certificate, health/travelers insurance card, etc.  While you’re at it, take pictures of the addresses of where you’re staying, phone numbers, etc or write it down on an app like google docs so that it’s always accessible {even offline}.  Whenever I’m going on any type of trip, I put together a pretty extensive itinerary with any pertinent information on it.  Pre-download maps that can also be used offline as well.

Bonus: Mark your checked bag well so you can spot it quickly and pack some back up essentials in your carry on so if something happens to your checked bag, you’re not completely stranded.

Tune in next Monday to see what big trip we have planned!
