Natural Everyday Detox – How To Naturally Detox

We live in a world where we are regularly exposed to a slew of toxins.  To combat this, here are a few ways to naturally detox every day.

Fiber & Antioxidants

Eating a fiber rich diet can help keep things regular, maintain balanced blood sugar levels and support a healthy functioning digestive system.  This allows us to effortlessly eliminate waste and toxins from our bodies.  My favorite way to consume fiber is in my daily 40 oz green smoothie that has more greens than fruit along with soaked chia seeds and ground {not whole} flaxseeds.  While trying to maintain a clean system, antioxidants can come into play to fight free radicals.  Examples of these are dark leafy greens, brazil nuts or walnuts, elderberries/goji berries, sweet potatoes, white tea, black beans, dark chocolate {75% cacao and up}, raisins, barley, etc.  In truth, those ubiquitous pomegranate juice bottles are often not as loaded up with as much antioxidant power as the aforementioned, despite what clever advertising would lead you to believe.

Dry Brushing

Skin brushing before a shower or bath in circular motions, towards your heart not only sloughs off dead skin, it improves circulation and stimulates the lymphatic system for healthy drainage.

Essential Oils

Eucalyptus, tea tree, lavender and basil are just a few examples of essential oils that naturally purify the air.  Added bonus: homemade beeswax candles can do the same versus other conventional candles that can actually release toxins into the air.

Dandelion which is a digestive tonic and diuretic, cilantro which binds to heavy metals {chlorella can do this too}, burdock root which helps to eliminate bacterial pathogens, stinging nettle which cleanses the urinary tract and milk thistle which promotes a healthy liver.  Cloves and ceylon cinnamon are high in antioxidants and very cleansing for the system as well.  An added bonus is activated charcoal that helps to purge toxins from your system.

Bentonite clay + activated charcoal + raw apple cider vinegar is one of my favorite face masks and it really draws out skin impurities.  You can actually see it working.  Since our skin is the largest organ on our bodies, consider swapping chemical laden products with more pure, simplified ones like aloe straight from the plant or cold pressed oils to moisturize, sugar/lemon or oatmeal scrub to exfoliate, homemade lip balm, or my many other homemade serums and lotions.  Consider swapping to a mineral based sunblock like my healthy homemade sunscreen.
